A Custom Creation for Isabel Van Gelder

From first sketch to stage

There is something particular about creating a piece for one person.

I have always loved the intimacy of custom-made — imagining a piece with someone in mind, for a meaningful moment, and eventually seeing them make it their own.

For artist Isabel Van Gelder’s first European Tour in 2026, I developed a custom silhouette around softness, movement and an ethereal grey-lilac palette.

The starting point was corsetry, approached through a softer language — balancing structure and delicacy.

From the first sketches, the idea was to reinterpret the lines of a corset through fluidity — following the body rather than constraining it, and allowing the silhouette to move naturally on stage.

The corset became the foundation of the look, constructed to softly shape the body while preserving movement.

Its lines and proportions were developed through the toile and fittings before moving into the final silk

Italian silk satin in a muted grey-lilac tone was chosen for its softness and subtle reflection of light.

Fluid silk chiffon brings transparency and movement, delicately scattered with a few Swarovski crystals to create subtle glimmers of light.

Entirely designed and handmade in Madrid, the silhouette came together through corsetry, draping and handwork — from the first construction to the final details.

And then, seeing the piece leave the atelier and become Isabel’s.

On stage, the silhouette takes on another life: the chiffon moves with the body, subtle crystals catch the light, while the construction underneath quietly shapes the silhouette.

From the first sketch to the stage, a custom piece created for Isabel and a meaningful moment — her first European Tour.
